1) How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Counting my previous account, 9 years! I joined when I was 13, and the rest is history.
2) What does your username mean?
My previous username, Electrical-Socket, was the result of an injoke between me and IncreasinglyCoherent
. As to not embarrass myself, I don't think I'll elaborate on the details! (My early ship art from when I first made this account may be at least a little bit of a hint towards the meaning.) My shiny new username is the result of wanting something a little more personalised and unique - I am a habitual wearer of odd socks, and 'odd sock' combined with my existing nickname of Socket resulted in the name you see before you now!
3) Describe yourself in three words.
Oh god, I'm awful at these! How about "small gay blob".
4) Are you left or right handed?
5) What was your first deviation?
Ahahaha, time to trot out my old artwork, is it? Well, here you go.
Drink it in. Bask in it.
6) What is your favourite type of art to create?
Ooooh, that's hard! As mediums go, I'm a very digital person - I am a slave to ctrl+z. I do most of my artwork and sketching digitally because I like the unlimited freedom I don't get with traditional! Permanence scares me, okay? Subject matter is probably fantasy creatures/monster folk/beasties of all strange sorts. I just love creating or interpreting creatures, be they animal or humanoid. Sculpture is a lesser-known pleasure of mine! I don't have the materials or anywhere to sculpt at this house, but there's something distinctly satisfying about working with clay.
7) If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Torn between realism, because damn that'd be cool, and manga, because damn I'd make a lot of money, haha!
8) What was your first favourite?
Oh god, okay. Let me go dredge that up from the depths of my first account.
This is it, apparently! Wow, that puts into perspective just how long ago those movies were.
9) What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Let me have a look... Pokémon fanart, haha! There's a lot of creature design stuff mixed in there too, but Pokémon fanart prevails.
10) Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Wow! A difficult choice to make when there are so many amazing creators on this site. I refuse to choose! loish
are all absolutely excellent artists and I can't be made to pick only one.
11) If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
*double pistol fingers and a wink at TennoStoryWriter
12) How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Now, come on, you can't give me this question and not expect me to immediately make eyes at IncreasinglyCoherent
. What a babe. We literally met here. She has impacted my life in the most profound way, she made the crappy parts of my life bearable and has helped me so much over the years to move towards being the person I want to be.
Also, she gives really good critiques. Lubby, thank you for always being there to point out when I've drawn someone with two left feet or a wonky eye.
13) What are your preferred tools to create art?
Traditionally, I love an A4 sketchbook and all the pens and pencils I can cram into my case. I have a bit of a thing for coloured ballpoints at the moment. Digitally, SAI is my forever software and either my Intuos or our Cintiq works for me! Especially the Cintiq. Oh, how I love it.
14) What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
This is probably sort of weird, but sitting by myself in a car. I think I've been conditioned in some weird Pavlovian way to get in the drawing zone if I'm sat by myself in a parked car with some music on. I don't know if that's 'inspirational', but it's certainly the place I slip into drawing most easily! The effect can be replicated in most small spaces where I don't have access to procrastination tools - I could probably set up a tent in the bedroom and sit in that with the same results, haha!
15) What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
There was this one dA user (who no longer uses the site as far as I'm aware) who used to give my teenage self the most absolutely glowing comments. I didn't deserve them in any way, shape or form. But they made my day every time I received one because they were just such amazing positive comments and I've always been sad that user left the site before I really got a chance to make sure they knew how appreciative I was of that! Little me thrived on that stuff and it just makes me happy that someone would go out of their way to write this tiny nooblet such lovely words of encouragement.
